Alabama Baseball Moves Up Yet Again in D1Baseball Top 25
The Alabama baseball team didn't emerge from this past weekend's series in Texas with its unbeaten record still intact. However, the Crimson Tide did net a higher mark in the D1Baseball rankings in part for its 2-1 effort at the Frisco Classic.
First-year head coach Rob Vaughn's squad got bumped up one spot to No. 15 after collecting its first ranked victory of the 2024 season on Friday. That run-rule win played a role in knocking the opponent, Indiana, from this week's poll. Alabama (11-1) went on to win its second game against Arizona this past Saturday, before then falling to Dallas Baptist in a 12-inning thriller for the event title on Sunday.
The Patriots (10-1) moved up five spots from No. 25 to No. 20. Indiana started at 20, going 1-2 at Riders Park.
Despite rising up the college baseball ranks after a loss, there's no rest for the weary as the Crimson Tide is set to face back-to-back foes of the in-state variety in its midweek contests. First is Jacksonville State on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Troy visits Sewell-Thomas Stadium for the first time since an epic clash against Alabama in last season's NCAA Tournament.
The game between the Crimson Tide and Patriots served as not only one of the best games of the young season thus far, but also a valuable opportunity for Alabama to play once more in pressure situations. Last Tuesday's road game against UAB went to extras, but the Crimson Tide prevailed. This week is the first chance for Alabama to respond to adversity that presented itself specifically in the form of losing a game.
