Three Alabama Baseball Players Opt For Major League Combine
A trio of Alabama baseball players will put their skill on display at the Major League Baseball Draft Combine according to MLB.com's online roster. Alabama outfielder Andrew Pinckney and pitchers Grayson Hitt and Hunter Furtado are all entering their names into the process.
Hitt is considered by MLB.com to be the 84th overall prospect and Furtado is considered the 177th prospect, while Pinckney is unranked.
Hitt served as the Crimson Tide's top pitcher before injury derailed his 2023. He still managed to pitch 38.2 innings and strike out 49 batters in eight outings before undergoing season ending surgery.
Furtado made 16 appearances for Alabama in 2023, largely serving the program out of the bullpen. The lefty struck out 38 batters across his 36 innings of work.
Pinckney was undoubtedly Alabama's best athlete on the team and got his bat going late. The right-fielder hit 18 home runs for the Tide while batting .339 and made quite the reputation for himself throwing out runners from the outfield.
The MLB Draft Combine is scheduled for June 20-23 in Phoenix. The participants will undergo a series of medical and performance assessments designed to help Major League organizations evaluate the upcoming draft class.
Players are able to participate in the combine and maintain their college eligibility, however it is unlikely to see the trio agin in Tuscaloosa.
