BamaCentral Courtside: No. 17 Kentucky 117, No. 13 Alabama 95
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Domination.
That's the only word that can accurately describe what happened to Alabama basketball in Rupp Arena on Saturday afternoon, as No. 17 Kentucky blew out the 13th-ranked Crimson Tide by a final score of 117-95.
After playing a very entertaining, back-and-forth first eight minutes of basketball, everything started to fall apart. Alabama surrendered an 18-2 Kentucky run over the latter portion of the first half that allowed the Wildcats to dig a hole so deep that climbing out of it felt inconceivable.
Turnovers made the Alabama offense that came into the game ranked No. 1 in the country in terms of efficiency look completely underwhelming. Once the floodgates opened, they didn't stop, with 16 Crimson Tide turnovers leading to 29 Kentucky points.
The Alabama defense couldn't get a stop all night, and that fact was aided by a fantastic shooting night from the Wildcats. Kentucky made 63 percent of its field goals and shot 13-of-24 on threes for the game.
Leading the way for Alabama in the loss was Rylan Griffen, who scored 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting.
Next up, Alabama has a second consecutive road trip, traveling to Ole Miss on Wednesday night as it looks to get back in the win column. Regardless of today's results across the league, the Crimson Tide will be at least tied for first place in the SEC standings even with the loss.
