Nate Oats Updates Status of Rylan Griffen's Injury
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama basketball head coach Nate Oats provided an update on sophomore guard Rylan Griffen, who exited the Florida game on Tuesday early with a calf injury.
"We got his MRI results back yesterday, the calf strain — the MRI results were a lot better than what we feared they might be," Oats said. "He's on a day-to-day basis right now, just working through with [trainer] Clarke. [...] I don't know for sure when he'll be back."
During the play where Griffen was injured, he collided with two Florida players while going after a loose ball, and went down holding his leg. He was helped off the court, unable to walk under his own power.
Griffen is in the middle of a strong season for the Crimson Tide, establishing himself as a starter after spending the entirety of his freshman season last year as a reserve. He averages 11.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game while shooting over 40 percent from beyond the arc.
If Griffen misses Saturday's game against Arkansas, the Crimson Tide's hope is that he will be back by late next week for the SEC Tournament in Nashville. Alabama won't play until minimum Thursday in the tournament, and could get a double-bye to Friday with a win over the Razorbacks.
The Crimson Tide is doing its best to get healthy before tournament play starts next week, with Latrell Wrightsell just having returned from a head injury after missing four games.
Tipoff for Alabama and Arkansas on Saturday morning is set for 11 a.m. CT, and the game will air on ESPN.
