TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Later this month, Alabama basketball will play the TCU Horned Frogs in a closed scrimmage in Birmingham, Ala., per a report from the Tuscaloosa News.

Last year, Alabama played TCU in a similar scrimmage, one in which the Horned Frogs won handily. It prompted a players-only meeting being called by the Alabama players, which set the stage for a record-breaking season to come.

The scrimmage this season will be the first of two scrimmages the Crimson Tide will play before tipping off the season. The second will be a charity exhibition against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Oct. 29.

Just over a week after Alabama's second scrimmage, the Crimson Tide's 2023-24 season will begin in Coleman Coliseum on Monday, Nov. 6 against Morehead State.

Alabama and TCU are both coming off successful years. Alabama won both the SEC regular season championship and SEC Tournament, earning the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and making the Sweet Sixteen for the second time in three seasons.

TCU finished last season 22-13, placing fifth in the Big 12 standings and falling in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to Gonzaga as a 6-seed.

As it is with all closed scrimmages, fans and media will not be in attendance.

Alabama is replacing the majority of  its production from last year after losing three players to the NBA Draft and three to the transfer portal. The Crimson Tide brought in a class of four freshman and four transfers to bolster the new-look roster.
