Report: Lawsuit Filed Against Former Alabama Basketball Players Brandon Miller, Darius Miles
Former Alabama basketball players Brandon Miller and Darius Miles and Miles' friend Michael Davis have been named as co-defendants in a wrongful death lawsuit in relation to the death of Jamea Harris.
As first reported by Tuscaloosa Patch, the lawsuit was filed in federal court Friday by Harris' mother, who is being represented by Birmingham attorneys from Farris, Riley & Pitt and The Martin Law Firm.
According to Patch's report, the lawsuit calls for a judge to grant a jury trial to award damages to the victim's family in an amount exceeding $75,000.
Miles and Davis are currently in jail, arrested and charged for the capital murder of Harris back in January. Miles is accused of bringing the gun to Davis, who shot and killed Harris.
The two are being tried separately. Miles is awaiting a pre-trial immunity hearing, and Davis will have his immunity hearing in December. Miles has been denied bond twice, most recently in May. Lawyers for both Miles and Davis are claiming self defense in the case.
Miller did not receive any criminal charges in the case and fully cooperated with police officials, but had the gun in his car that Miles retrieved to give to Davis at the murder scene. Miles was immediately kicked off the team and kicked out of the University. Miller did not face any sort of suspension from Alabama.
Miller was selected second overall in the 2023 NBA Draft and is about to start his first season with the Charlotte Hornets. His rookie contract was around $50 million over four years.
