After Back-to-Back SEC Road Wins, Alabama Football is 'Trending in the Right Direction'
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A month ago, the world was falling apart for Alabama fans.
The Crimson Tide lost a poorly-played game to Texas in the second week of the season and many people were ready to leave Alabama for dead.
Since then, the 11th-ranked Crimson Tide (5-1, 3-0 SEC) has reeled off four straight wins, including three away from Bryant-Denny Stadium. This weekend, Alabama returns home — and will stay at home until Nov. 11.
"I think the biggest thing that we want to focus on is to build on the positives of the good things that our team did in the last game," head coach Nick Saban said. "Did a lot of good things in terms of being able to pass the ball effectively in the game, make some explosive plays. The defense did a pretty good job for the most part."
"Obviously there's things that we need to work on and we want to be positive about how we fix those things in the future so that we can continue to progress as a team."
The Crimson Tide is a team trending in the right direction — a team in control of its own destiny halfway through the regular season.
"It’s not easy to win in the SEC. So every win means something," offensive tackle JC Latham said. "It shows that as a unit, our offense is really resilient and we do what we’ve got to do to win, regardless of what we have to lean on or who we have to do it with."
"Guys have been hurt. Some guys couldn’t play because of injury — we got the job done. Every guy from the starters to the backups are all bought in to do what we gotta do. And then, from a defensive standpoint, those guys are playing great out there every single day. So just having a great defense like that to build confidence with and help the offense whenever we’re struggling is great. So I think we’re trending in the right direction."
Latham's defensive counterparts are happy with the progress of the team as well.
"Those were big games for us after starting out sort of slow," defensive back Jaylen Key said. "Playing those games was tough, a tough environment. But as a team, we’re tough and we’re going to compete and get better during the season."
"We're a very strong and competitive team, no matter the circumstances," outside linebacker Chris Braswell said. "We strive to go out there and play to the 'Bama standard."
The Crimson Tide hosts Arkansas, No. 19 Tennessee and No. 22 LSU over the next four weeks, with a bye week on Oct. 28 mixed in.
What once looked like a lost season has quickly turned around for No. 11 Alabama.
