Alabama Football Updates Roster With New Jersey Numbers For 2023 Season
Alabama football kicks off its season in seven days against the MTSU Blue Raiders in Bryant-Denny Stadium. The University of Alabama football program has updated its online roster in preparation for the new season and a handful of players have decided to wear new jersey numbers this year.
A small trend can be noticed with all five players who've changed numbers. Each player ditched a higher digit in favor of a lower number and the only players to change numbers were wide receivers and defensive backs.
Alabama players who changed jersey numbers
4 – Kristian Story, Senior, DB (was No. 11)
6 – Jaylen Key, Graduate Senior, DB (was No. 22)
6 – Kobe Prentice, Sophomore, WR (was No. 80)
9 – Trey Amos, Senior, DB (was No. 23)
14 – Jalen Hale, Freshman, WR (was No. 82)
The single digit jersey numbers are very popular and often most coveted, represented in the fact that numbers 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 are represented by both offensive and defensive players.
Subsequently, the numbers were likely adjusted as the coaching staff fills out its depth charts for the upcoming season, giving the coaching staff flexibility when deciding who's playing on special teams.
The Crimson Tide opens its season on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m. in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Fans looking to support the athletes can visit "The Authentic" inside the stadium to purchase merchandise and memorabilia, including jerseys and T-shirts.
