Alabama vs. LSU: Always A Great Game

Crimson Tide has won its fair share against the Tigers, including the 1998 meeting in Baton Rouge, 22-16.

In a series that started in 1895, Bama leads 53-25-5 including a current eight-game winning streak that dates back to 2011. 

But here's a quick look at the rivalry from the other side:

The 2019 game will be the 84th meeting between these two long-time Southern football rivals. 

Since 2005, the LSU-Alabama games have been extremely competitive, with seven of those games being decided by seven points or less. 

During head coach Nick Saban’s tenure in Tuscaloosa, six of the 12 games between the two teams have been decided by that same narrow margin, with three going into overtime including the famous "Game of the Century" in 2011.

The 9-6 final marked the last win for the Tigers in the series.

During the last meeting in Tuscaloosa in 2017, Jalen Hurts rushed for one score and threw for a second as the Crimson Tide handed the Tigers a 24-10 defeat at Bryant-Denny Stadium. 

The Tigers won the inaugural meeting in Baton Rouge, 12-6, on Nov. 18, 1895. The two teams did not meet again until the 1902 season, with LSU prevailing again. 

Alabama’s first series win came on Nov. 9, 1903, in Baton Rouge as the Crimson Tide scored a 10-0 victory. 

From 1919-45, Alabama posted a 12-game unbeaten streak (9-0-3) against LSU. 

The series was resumed during the 1944 season with the Tigers gaining a slight advantage over the next nine meetings, posting a 5-3-1 record from 1946-58. 

Alabama went 16-2 (.889) against LSU from 1964- 81, including a series-best 11-game winning streak from 1971-81. LSU also ended UA’s school record 31-game (30-0-1) unbeaten streak with a 17-13 win at Bryant-Denny Stadium in 1993. 

The Tigers snapped a 15-game winless streak to the Crimson Tide in Tiger Stadium with a 30-28 win in Baton Rouge on Nov. 4, 2000. 

Alabama snapped a five-game series skid with the 27-21 overtime win in Baton Rouge in 2008 and followed that with a 24-15 win in Tuscaloosa in 2009.

The current winning streak began with the BCS National Championship at the end of the 2011 season, when Alabama came out on top, 21-0. 

Alabama then produced one of the more memorable victories with a come-from-behind 21-17 victory at Tiger Stadium in 2012 as AJ McCarron found T.J. Yeldon on a screen pass for a 28-yard touchdown with 51 seconds remaining. 

Alabama pulled away in the second half for a convincing 38-17 win in 2013. 

In 2014, a stunning last-minute drive in the fourth quarter by Blake Sims produced a game-tying field goal to send the 2014 matchup into overtime. The Crimson Tide would secure the win, 20-13, as Sims found DeAndrew White in the corner of the end zone for a 6-yard score.

In 2015, Derrick Henry rushed for three touchdowns and the Tide defense limited LSU to just 182 yards in a 30-16 Alabama win. 

During the 2016 matchup, Hurts engineered two fourth-quarter scoring drives to break open a scoreless tie as No. 1-ranked Alabama downed the No. 15 Tigers, 10-0, at Tiger Stadium. 

Last time out, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the Crimson Tide shutout the Tigers 29-0 on Nov. 3, 2018.     

Alabama head coach Nick Saban is 10-4 (.714) in his career against LSU and has won the last eight meetings.

Saban was the head coach at LSU from 2000- 04 and compiled a 48-16 (.750) record, leading the Tigers to two SEC Championships during his tenure. In 2003, Saban coached the Tigers to a 13-1 record and a 21-14 win over Oklahoma in the BCS National Championship Game played at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, La.
