College GameDay Announces Celebrity Guest Picker

ESPN turns to a Crimson Tide legend to pick games with the panel in College GameDay's final segment.

The Alabama Crimson Tide will host the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night in the most high profile matchup of the college football weekend. The who's who of the college football media world is descending on Tuscaloosa, including ESPN's premier pregame program, College GameDay.

One of the more fun traditions on the Saturday morning program comes at the end of the show when each of the panelist predict the winners of the day's best games. The panelists are joined for this final segment by a celebrity who also makes picks as well, often cutting up with Lee Corso and his colleagues.

More often than not the program reaches out to celebrities with ties to the host university or city and this weekend will be no different. ESPN has announced former Alabama quarterback Joe Namath will serve as this weekend's celebrity guest picker.

Namath played for the Crimson Tide from 1962-64, leading Alabama to a national championship in 1964. He boasts a career record of 29-4 as a starting quarterback, passing for 2,713 yards and rushing for 655 more.

He went on to become a first round draft pick in both the NFL and AFL drafts in 1965 and ultimately went onto play 13 seasons in the NFL. Namath is most famous for making "the guarantee" before Super Bowl III, before leading the New York Jets to a Super Bowl win. Broadway Joe was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985.
