The Alabama football players are in period of transition as the season came to a conclusion on Monday in the Rose Bowl.

According to Chris Hummer of 247Sports Alabama freshman quarterback Eli Holstein has decided to enter the transfer portal.

Holstein was a former 4-star recruit out of Zachary, La., he was considered the No. 8 overall quarterback and the No. 5 overall recruit in the state of Louisiana in the 2023 class.

The 6-foot-4, 237-pound quarterback did not see any action in this past season. He expects to transfer and have four years of eligibility remaining.

The Crimson Tide focused their recruiting efforts on Holstein and Dylan Lonnergan after missing out on Arch Manning.

He committed to Alabama in May of 2022 and ended up early enrolling in January of 2023. Holstein competed throughout the spring and appeared in Alabama's A-Day game. The Louisianan completed three of his six passes and was intercepted once while also taking two sacks.

He was highly touted out of high school and chose Alabama over schools like Auburn, Florida, Georgia and LSU. He helped his high school win the Class 5A state championship and was named the Louisiana Football Player of the Year by MaxPreps.

Holstein becomes the Tide's second quarterback to enter the transfer portal following Tyler Buchner's decision before the bowl game. Currently Alabama is expecting to bring back Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson, Dylan Lonnergan and Julian Sayin for its 2024 quarterback room.

Players have five days after the conclusion of the season to decide if they'll head into the transfer portal or not.
