Instant Analysis: No. 8 Alabama 27, Auburn 24
Auburn, Ala. — There's nothing like concluding the regular season with a bang.
On Saturday, the 8th-ranked Alabama secured a last-minute Iron Bowl victory in shocking fashion, defeating Auburn by a final score of 27-24.
It was a big day for Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe, who finished the game with 259 yards and two touchdowns while completing 16-for-24 passes.
Milroe, who tossed a 31-yard touchdown to Isaiah Bond on 4th-and-31 with 0:32 remaining, was pleased with Alabama's fourth quarter resiliency.
"We talk about determination," Milroe said after the game. "We talk about never giving up, and that all came in today. A lot of people talk about it. It's all about doing it."
For Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban, that same sentiment rings true.
"So do I need to really say anything? It's an unbelievable game," Saban said. "If you're in this long enough, sometimes it goes against you in the last play of the game, and sometimes you're fortunate and it goes for you. Our players really stepped up, got a couple stops when we needed to on defense, which we didn't play great all day, but we got stops when we needed to. Offense put some drives together and we overcame adversity, bad snap when we had an opportunity to score, then we make a great play on fourth down. So, can't say enough about the resiliency of our players, how they competed in the game, played hard in the fourth quarter.
After defeating the Tigers on the road, Alabama will now set their eyes on an SEC Championship game matchup with Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs coming on Saturday.
