Jalen Milroe, Kadyn Proctor Earn SEC Recognition For Iron Bowl Performance
The No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide miraculously defeated the Auburn Tigers in the regular season finale on Saturday 27-24.
It took quarterback Jalen Milroe completing a 31-yard pass to Isaiah Bond on fourth down with less than a minute on the clock to put the favorites in front for good and seal the win for the Crimson Tide.
For Milroe's efforts, he's been named SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week along with Missouri running back Cody Schrader.
Milroe completed 16/24 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns, including the wild game-winner. He also carried the ball 18 times for 107 yards to move the Alabama offense throughout the game.
The Crimson Tide quarterback wasn't the only honoree as freshman left tackle Kadyn Proctor also was singled out for a strong performance earning SEC Co Freshman of the week along with Georgia linebacker CJ Allen.
Proctor didn't allow a sack or a quarterback hit throughout the game, he recorded two knockdown blocks and was pivotal in Alabama's 451 offensive yards. Alabama was typically effective in the running game, tallying 192 yards collectively.
It's the third time this season that Milroe has earned conference honors as player of the week and it's the first for Proctor. Both players have irrefutably come a long way in their effectiveness, allowing the offense to operate at a high level.
The pair combined together to go 6-16 on third downs this past week against Auburn but they were 100% on fourth downs, converting both their attempts on the game-winning drive.
Schrader took 27 carries for 217 yards and a touchdown against Arkansas, while Allen had eight tackles in the Bulldogs win against Georgia Tech to split the weekly awards with Milroe and Proctor.
The University of Alabama football program's coaching staff selected 10 players of the week of their own after the Iron Bowl.
Of course Milroe and Proctor were on their list from the game, but joining them on offense was Bond and Roydell Williams. Bond caught the aforementioned game-winning touchdown and in total reeled in five passes for 75 yards and the score. Williams toted the rock eight times for 30 yards and a touchdown, while also securing a tackle on punt coverage in the rivalry game.
Defensively the coaches selected Terrion Arnold, Chris Braswell, Deontae Lawson and Dallas Turner as it's players of the week.
Arnold got two interceptions and three tackles, both of his picks came as time was expiring in each half. Lawson recorded five tackles and a sack in his return to action after an ankle injury. Braswell had three tackles and a sack along with a forced fumble and Turner recorded four tackles and a sack to go along with eight quarterback hurries.
Alabama selected Jihaad Campbell and Quandarius Robinson as players on the week on special teams. Campbell recovered the muffed punt that gave the Tide new life at the end of the game, while Robinson had three special teams tackles and was sound in his assignments in coverage.
