Longtime Alabama Staffers Not Retained Under Kalen DeBoer

After the retirement of Nick Saban and subsequent hiring of Kalen DeBoer, changes are going beyond just the coaching staff.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — As the Alabama football program transitions into a new era following the departure of Nick Saban, notable changes are underway that extend beyond the coaching staff.

Longtime staffers, Jonathan King, creative director, and Evan Van Nostrand, assistant director of player development, are among those not retained under the leadership of the new head coach, Kalen DeBoer.

King, who has served as Alabama football's creative director for the last seven years, played a crucial role in shaping the visual and creative aspects of the program itself, as his tenure saw Alabama football embracing a distinctive aesthetic that became synonymous with the program's success.

"Abrupt endings can bring a lot of fear and confusion, but God is doing a good thing," King said. "If He has something more exciting than Alabama Football lined up, I can’t imagine the adventures to come!"

Van Nostrand, the assistant director of player development since 2019, has been with Alabama since arriving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2016, and is a decorated veteran.
