Nick Saban Talks Linebacker Depth Amidst Deontae Lawson Injury

Saban said he wants to make sure all of the linebackers are ready to go if Lawson can't participate in Alabama's road matchup with Mississippi State.
In this story:

The Alabama Crimson Tide defense took a hit on Saturday when middle linebacker Deontae Lawson went down with a sprained ankle.

After the game, Saban said that Lawson would be day-to-day. He gave an update on his status on Monday while also talking about the development of others at the position.

"We played most of the game this last game with Jihaad [Campbell] playing, and Trezmen [Marshall] playing. That’ll be the way that we go. Obviously the depth at that position is going to become critical for us if Deontae can’t go. And we’ll keep working with these guys and try to get them ready to go this week."

Defensive back Malachi Moore is confident in the guys behind Lawson.

"I think they did a great job of coming in and taking control of their position," Moore said. "I think they did a great job of communicating with the line and the secondary and I think they’re going to do a good job."

Lawson will likely be questionable all week for the Crimson Tide (3-1, 1-0 SEC), which meets Mississippi State (2-2, 0-2 SEC) on Saturday night in Starkville.
