Nick's Kids Giveaway Luncheon Gives Opportunity For Reflection Ahead of New Season
The 2023 offseason for the Alabama football program has been filled with changes and question marks as the college football world has publicly wondered if the Crimson Tide dynasty is finally dead.
Despite turnover at both coordinator positions, losing two top-five draft picks and not having a clear-cut starter in the quarterback room Nick Saban begins his football season as he always has, by giving back.
Saban and a number of Alabama football players were on hand at Bryant-Denny Stadium for the annual Nick's Kids Giveaway Luncheon, celebrating with families who have benefited from his organization and thanking donors and sponsors who help
"This is obviously a Nick's Kids event which is our way to give back to the community. Miss Terry and her staff and group of people who support Nick's Kids do a fantastic job of helping us help a lot of young people have a better chance to have a better quality of life or a better chance to be successful in life and also improve the quality of life for some of the people in the community for maybe aren't as fortunate," said Saban to the media on Wednesday.
"Obviously, you all know the history behind this was all started by my father, way back when he brought the school bus and picked up kids so they could participate and have opportunities to go to college. He did a lot of things for those kids. My mom always wanted us to do something, to give back to the community and help kids if we were ever in a position to have the opportunity to do it. We're excited about not only this event today, but also this event always sort of kicks off football season in my mind with meetings starting later today and practice starting tomorrow."
The Nick's Kids Giveaway Luncheon will give roughly $600,000 away to other 501c3 charities.
"This season we've been working hard on our new discovery center, which will be a state of the art learning center for Tuscaloosa and it will feature programming for all stem subjects, science, technology, engineering. Things that we really need for our young people to prepare them for the jobs that are out there," said Terry Saban.
Since the Saban's arrival to Tuscaloosa the organization has donated nearly $12 million to causes and endeavors. Most notably, Nick's Kids is involved in the Habitat for Humanity Home Building Project, PARA of Tuscaloosa County All Inclusive Playground, The Saban Center, the Annual Teacher's Excellence Awards Luncheon and were major contributors to the Welding & Multi-Purpose Classroom Facility at the Tuscaloosa Juvenile Detention Center that was completed in Summer of 2019.
As the new Alabama football season kicks off and expectations are sky high for another year, its vital to the Saban's that the couple's impact goes beyond just wins and losses.
