Report: Alabama to Make Change With Starting Quarterback on Saturday
The Alabama Crimson Tide has played three quarterbacks through the first two weeks, but only one while games were in doubt. Redshirt sophomore Jalen Milroe has led the Alabama offense against MTSU and Texas through the first two weeks, but that appears to be changing as the Tide takes on South Florida on Saturday.
According to reports from John Talty of 247Sports the Alabama Crimson Tide offense will turn to Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner to serve as the starter against the Bulls.
Milroe looked impressive in Week 1 against the MTSU Blue Raiders, totaling five touchdowns and avoiding turnovers. However, in Week 2 against the Texas Longhorns he undoubtedly struggled, throwing two interceptions that led directly to Burnt Orange points.
Buchner started three games for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish last season under Tommy Rees' leadership. He transferred to Tuscaloosa in the summer and began to learn the Alabama terminology and work his way up the depth chart.
The redshirt sophomore appeared in 13 total games for the Irish, managing a 57% completion percentage with 949 yards, 6 touchdown passes and 8 interceptions.
He was the first quarterback to appear in relief for the Tide in Week 1 against the Blue Raiders, leading two second half drives, punting on the first and scoring a touchdown on the second.
Buchner completed just three of his five passes for 27 yards and took his only carry for nine yards and a touchdown against MTSU.
The Alabama Crimson Tide kicks off against the South Florida Bulls on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC.
