Legendary Alabama football head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement on Wednesday sending the college football world into frenzy.

Saban has been the standard of coaching in college football throughout his 17-year tenure in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne will likely move quickly to name Saban's successor in order to provide clarity for the Crimson Tide players currently on the roster.

According to a report from KVAL CBS in Eugene, Ore., the next head coach could already be in Tuscaloosa.

"As we did report before, I do, I previously worked in Alabama - in Tuscaloosa. Of course, I do have some sources there," said anchor Brandon Kamerman. "We did confirm that Lanning is in Tuscaloosa - in Alabama. It doesn't mean the job is signed - the contract is signed, but he's there and what I was told is that the players were told a decision will be made in the next 72 hours"

Kammerman spent time in Tuscaloosa as WVUA23's Assistant Sports Director from 2015-18 before accepting the Sports Director position for KVAL in Oregon.

Lanning has been the Oregon Ducks head football coach for the last two seasons, leading them to a 22-5 record and winning the Holiday and Fiesta Bowls.

He served on the Alabama staff in 2015 as a graduate assistant, helping the Crimson Tide win a national championship over Clemson. He also spent time on Kirby Smart's staff from 2018-21 as defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach before accepting the head position at Oregon.
