2024 Tight End Davon Mitchell Lists Alabama Among Top 11 Schools
Tight end Davon Mitchell recently announced his top 11 schools, including the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Mitchell is a consensus 4-star recruit and the top tight end prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. He plays for Los Alamitos High School in California.
By the the time Mitchell joins the college ranks, over half of the schools in his top 11 will be SEC programs: Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Texas and Oklahoma. Ohio State and Penn State are the Big Ten schools in contention for Mitchell, followed by USC and Oregon to round out the list.
Mitchell is a receiving tight end, displaying a natural ability to catch the ball on tape. He is a big target that either catches passes in the flat or across the middle and takes whatever contact comes his way.
Alabama is not known for having an elite history at tight end, so a player of Mitchell's caliber joining Tommy Rees' offense would open a lot of doors. Georgia, on the other hand, is considered tight end-U with how well the position is used in the Bulldogs' offense.
It is also of note that before Rees left Notre Dame, he had a hand in recruiting Mitchell to the Fighting Irish. The relationship between the two could sway the California native's decision once that time comes.
