Alabama Football Makes Offer to Top-Ranked In-State Recruit
The University of Alabama made edge rusher Jared Smith an offer on Monday, per the sophomore himself.
The 6-foot-6, 230-pound prospect out of Spain Park High School, Hoover, Ala., is ranked as the top overall sophomore in the state, the consensus No. 2 edge and No. 5 prospect in the Class of 2025.
Smith's highlights show many signs why he represents the state, but his measurements really stick out. Smith's ideal height and weight combined with his 35-inch arms make him a prospect all recruits strive for.
Smith's speed, quick first step and change of direction don't necessarily come from just his time on the gridiron, but the hardwood as well. Smith and the Spain Park basketball team made the 7A Final Four his freshman year.
Smith's ability to effortlessly shed blocks and reach the backfield at such a high rate is a rare sight to see. He's able to stick with mobile quarterbacks and doesn't fall for their precision moves.
When the ball carrier goes past the line of scrimmage, Smith will often leave his blocker and have the speed to catch up to him and make the aggressive tackle.
Smith's awareness, enhancing basketball traits, shedding ability and elite size gives Alabama defensive line coach Freddie Roach someone that sticks out of his 2025 recruiting notes. Smith visited Tuscaloosa in October, but Roach and Alabama's offer on Monday will hopefully convince him to come back once again.
