Five Prospects The Tide Can Flip on National Early Signing Date
The Alabama Crimson Tide football program is fully preparing for the Rose Bowl, however the college football calendar means another important date is rapidly approaching.
The National Early Signing Date for college football's 2024 class is tomorrow, meaning prospects can officially put pen to paper, put their recruitment behind them and begin their college careers.
For the Alabama faithful there isn't too much drama to follow in this year's cycle as the Tide has locked down 22 commits in the '24 class. In fact, at least 11 of commits came to Tuscaloosa over the weekend as they early enrolled and began bowl practice. Alabama is expecting five more class members to join in the next two weeks.
The Crimson Tide currently boast the No. 3 overall class in the cycle. Could Alabama jump Georgia or Ohio State for the top spot in the 2024 class?
Let's look at five prospects Nick Saban and his staff are working on till the bitter end that could join the Tide and help keep they dynasty rolling.
1. Kevin Riley - Tuscaloosa County High School
The 4-star running back from Tuscaloosa County High has been committed to Miami since June of this year. Alabama has been heavily on his case throughout the recruitment cycle and needs to add a running back to the class. Riley is considered the No. 4 running back in the class and the No. 8 prospect in the state. At 5-foot-11, 195-pounds he already has experience playing difficult competition. The Wildcats play in the toughest high school region in the state of Alabama.
2. Tristan Jernigan - Tupelo High School
The 4-star linebacker from Tupelo, Miss., has been committed to Texas A&M since May of this year but the Tide have stayed on him throughout the season. Jernigan was offered an Alabama scholarship in July and took an official visit two weekends ago to Tuscaloosa. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker is considered the No. 15 overall prospect in the state of Mississippi.
Jernigan appears to have reopened his recruitment despite not decommitting from Texas A&M. The young linebacker took to social media on Monday asking fans if he should take his talents to College Station or to Tuscaloosa.
3. Daniel Hill - Meridian High School
Hill is a 4-star running back from Meridian, Miss. The Crimson Tide has been after Hill throughout the entire 2024 cycle but he has slow played his recruitment. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound running back is a Mississippi State legacy and has been under immense pressure to stay close to home and follow in his father's footsteps. Hill is considered the No. 3 player in Mississippi and the No. 15 overall running back in the class by the 247SportsComposite.
He almost made a commitment announcement in mid-November but decided to postpone it as he continued to weigh his options. Hill is still uncommitted and reportedly considering Mississippi State, Alabama and Tennessee as the clock ticks down towards a decision.
4. Eddrick Houston - Buford High School
Houston is a 5-star defensive lineman out of Buford, Ga., He's been committed to Ohio State since August of this year but Alabama has not stopped recruiting him. In fact, the 6-foot-3, 265-pound lineman came to Tuscaloosa this past weekend on a surprise unofficial visit.
Alabama has had strong success with Buford players lately with Seth McLaughlin and Isaiah Bond. Jake Pope and Justice Haynes are still waiting in the wings to make an impact on the Tide but can contribute next season.
Houston is considered the No. 5 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 5 lineman in the 2024 cycle, making his potential-flip the biggest out of the five.
5. Perry Thompson - Foley High School
Thompson is a 5-star receiver out of Foley and a one-time Alabama commit in this 2024 cycle. "Uno" is considered the No. 4 prospect in the state of Alabama and the No. 10 receiver but he flipped his commitment to Auburn in late July and has apparently been with the Tigers ever since.
Thompson, standing at 6-foot-3, 200-pounds hauled in 53 passes for 718 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior. He's currently on of Hugh Freeze's prized recruits but make rumblings on social media indicating potential unhappiness. Can the Tide deliver a big blow to Auburn and re-flip Thompson back into this class?
National Early Signing Date shouldn't have too much drama in it for Alabama fans as all of its 22 commitments are securely on board to roll with the Tide. However it could be an exciting day as far as additions go as Alabama can always poach prospects from other classes.
