NCAA Extends Recruiting Dead Period

No in-person recruiting visits until at least June 30 due to COVID-19

High-profile high school prospects will have to wait another month to take their on-campus visits.

The NCAA announced on Wednesday night that its recruiting dead period will extend until at least June 30.

Originally the dead period was set to end on May 31. On May 27, the Division 1 Council Committee will meet to review, and potentially, prolong the period again.

College coaches have resorted to the virtual route for months now, giving virtual tours through Zoom or FaceTime.

The idle time has given coaching staffs the opportunity to spend more time contacting recruits. For example, University of Alabama football target, five-star offensive tackle Amarius Mims received 34 phone calls in one day from coaches per his Twitter account.

This is the new normal for coaches around the country and it could continue past the month of June.

The summer is always a pivotal time for Alabama as its normally hosts many football camps, and hands out many scholarship offers, but that has been suspended until at least July 31st.
