The Alabama Crimson Tide football program is off this weekend and therefore the on-campus recruiting efforts are light. A number of Crimson Tide assistant coaches will be checking in on current commits and making in-person pitches as there's no games to play.

The biggest focus for the Alabama fan base turns to basketball as 5-star Derrion Reid is making his college commitment on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT. Reid has long been considered an Alabama lean but late movement by Georgia and Florida State have put his status in doubt  heading into the weekend.

The 6-foot-7 forward out of Prolific Prep in Napa, Cali., is teammates with Aiden Sherrell, Alabama's only current commit in the 2024 class. Should Reid join his teammate in Tuscaloosa it would vault the Tide into the top-20 in the 247Sports class rankings for 2024.

Tide Bits

There is action to follow in football and with both diamond sports as even though its a football off week the recruiting never stops.

  • 4-star defensive lineman Christian Garrett out of Prince Avenue Christian School in Bogart, Ga. will take an unofficial visit this weekend, according to Brett Greenberg of 247Sports. Garrett is considered the No. 18 overall defensive lineman in the class of 2025 by the 247Sports composite and was last on campus for Alabama's game with Texas.
  • Class of 2024 4-star running back Kewan Lacy announced on social media he was decommitting from Nebraska this week on social media. The Lancaster, Tx., product is on the Crimson Tide's radar as Alabama has yet to secure a running back in the class.
  • Alabama baseball secured the commitment of Ross Lindsey this week. Lindsey is a class of 2025 left-handed pitcher and outfielder out of Natchitoches, La. Prep Baseball reports the junior has topped his fastball at 87 mph so far.
  • Class of 2025's Gerritt Griggs took to social media to announce her intentions to play softball for the Crimson Tide. Griggs is out of Central-Phenix City, Ala. and was named the Opelika-Auburn News Hitter of the Year this past season as a sophomore.
  • Lastly, a check in on Alabama's future quarterback, Julian Sayin. Sayin's Carlsbad Lancers team is currently 9-0 this year. Sayin has played in eight of those games and thrown for 1916 yards with 20 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He's chipped in with 153 rushing yards and four scores on the ground as well.
