Recruiting Rundown: How Long is a Recruit Willing to Wait for an Offer?
Let's make something clear, it's a tall task for any program to sweep in at the last minute and sign a recruit. That rule applies to Alabama.
Still, for Rico Scott to include Alabama among his final six programs, it's another example of how some kids are always "waiting" for that one school to offer them.
Scott only got the offer from the Crimson Tide in early March, but on March 24, Alabama remained in contention with Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Penn State and Colorado. And as a 2024 prospect, his decision may not come until the middle of the summer.
That also means he could take an official or unofficial visit, or even participate in a camp and knock out two birds with one stone. Before March, who knows how close he was to make a decision.
Of course, Scott is not the first player to add a top program on the backend of his recruiting process. He also wouldn't be the first player to have Power 5 offers but still wanted one from Alabama.
Take Brandon Heyward and Markeis Barrett for example. Both players have offers from about half of the SEC, but both players also want the offer from the crimson and white. There is little doubt that if that were to happen, one of those other SEC programs will immediately be on the outside looking in.
Tide-bits
- For those who don't know (or don't remember from the story on Nick Pringle), Bryan Hodgson hits the ground running with recruiting. It will be interesting to see the caliber of players Nate Oats can get for the 2024 class and beyond, along with how much Alabama will miss on the recruiting front.
- Alabama's running back room is stacked for this year and next. Still, Auburn has its own running back prospect, earning a commitment from Andalusia running back J'Marion Burnette. Burnette is a 4-star recruit and the No. 10 running back in the 2024 class.
- On the basketball front, Alabama's wing depth doesn't look great past next season. Brandon Miller is likely gone and Dom Welch graduates this year. And if Rylan Griffen takes a big enough leap next season, he may turn pro. Knowing that it's a good move to offer 3-star prospect Chase McCarty, an Alabama product who fits the bill as a 6-foot-5 wing.
Recruits to Remember
- Williams Nwaneri - Defensive Line (2024), 6 feet, 5 inches, 250 pounds, Lee's Summit North (MO)
- Nwaneri is the No. 1 defensive lineman in the 2024 class
- Cameron Coleman - Wide Receiver (2024), 6 feet, 3 inches, 175 pounds, Central - Phenix City (AL)
- At his height, Coleman would likely be the tallest wide receiver on the roster. There is currently one receiver who's listed at his height; walk-on Hayden Neighbors
