Recruiting Rundown: Making the Most of Summer Camp
The first full week of April is complete. And as players get ready for spring practices with their high schools, top recruits are also getting ready for camps at various colleges and universities.
It essentially serves the same purpose as 7-on-7; players get to showcase their talents against the competition, with the possibility of a scout or a member of a coaching staff being in attendance to see them in action.
There are some differences, however. The obvious one is that players are guaranteed to play in front of coaches at a school, directly increasing (or decreasing) their reputation with their play. Some players could even earn a scholarship with that performance.
The other difference is that, unlike 7-on-7, all positions will be able to participate. Linemen and running backs don't have much use in 7-on-7, so those players will have a fair shot.
Regarding which camps to attend, players prioritize the schools that are recruiting them, along with programs they want to earn an offer from. Take Markeis Barret for example - he has offers from multiple SEC schools except Alabama. When he spoke to BamaCentral after a 7-on-7 competition, he mentioned that he plans to attend an Alabama camp over the summer.
What better way to get on Nick Saban's radar than to ball out in front of him?
