FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Football may be here, but baseball is never too far away. Watch coach Dave Van Horn discuss some big-name D1 transfers that Arkansas nabbed in the portal this year to replace talent lost in the draft and the importance of developing throughout summer and fall ball.

“Guys got to show us what to do on the defensive end,” Van Horn said. “We’re gonna put a lot of time on defense. When you think about the last two seasons, we really played great defense and it helped us a lot. We didn't really have a great start to the season (last year), and we kicked it into gear and surprised a lot of people how good we were defensively.

Maybe the most interesting part of the press conference was talking about a non-conference list games that is not full set yet. He hinted at an exciting start to the season regarding scheduling that the Hog Pen faithful can look forward to.

"With the schedule that we have next year, and it hasn't been announced but the non-conference games were gonna play and then the conference games here, the fans are going to have an incredible home schedule," Van Horn said.

Van Horn also spoke about incoming transfer junior Mason Molina from Texas Tech as a big part the pitching staff this year.

“Mason had about 37 Division I schools trying to get him to go to school there, " Van Horn said. “When you can get a pitcher that has a couple years of Division 1 experience especially in a really good conference, it should help. If he’s healthy, and I think he is, He’s going to be a big part of our pitching staff.

Van Horn also said that Arkansas will most likely not play any outside competition this fall and instead will focus purely on intrasquad scrimmages. Fall practices have been set to start Sept. 8. Arkansas opens the season for the second straight year at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Series on Feb. 23-25, 2024.
