Razorbacks' Augustave Puts Name in Portal Hours After Playing Spring Game

Big part of Hogs' picture at running back entered transfer portal, which has interesting timing for variety of reasons

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — In yet another example of things wrong in college football, running back Isaiah Augustave announced he's entering the transfer portal just hours after playing in the Red White game at Razorback Stadium. There goes a lot of wasted reps the offense could have had with someone not looking to leave.

Augustave certainly has the right to do it under the rules. He can make whatever decision he feels is best for him, but it's a lack of maturity to go through spring practices where he was definitely in the mix for serious playing time with Rashod Dubinion at the top of the depth chart, then leave. It's hard to swallow the notion he had that idea in the spur of the moment.

He wasn't particularly impressive Saturday, rushing for 10 yards on seven carries and -3 yards catching a couple of passes. Whether it's correct or not, the impression is he didn't get the playing time he thought he deserved in the spring game and dropped his name in the transfer portal. The graphics on social media, though, doesn't look like it was thrown together at the last moment. Maybe it was the emergence of Utah transfer Ja'Quinden Jackson and Augustave saw the writing on the wall.

Last year, he only had 202 yards rushing on the season, but 181 of it came in the final two games against Florida International and Missouri. He was starting to come into his own finding his role and appeared poised to be a contender for playing time.

It looked throughout spring as if he was pushing for the key backup role to Dubinion as the main running back and perhaps making some progress before running away after the spring game. That will leave opportunities for playing time and yet another question for a team that came out of the spring game looking for answers.
