Arkansas Lineman Ranks Near Top In Transfer Ranking
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — One of the top portal additions in the entire country is Fernando Carmona, Jr. He is also one of the highest graded transfer tackles in college football next season at No. 2 behind Illinois’ JC Davis who transferred in from New Mexico, per Pro Football Focus-College.
As a former standout at San Jose State, Carmona earned a grade of 81.5 based off of 765 snaps played last season. In pass protection, he allowed only two sacks in 424 pass blocking attempts. As a junior, the offensive tackle earned second-team All-Mountain West Conference honors.
Carmona ranks at the No. 284 prospect and No. 12 offensive tackle in the 2024 transfer rankings, per 247sports. The Razorbacks currently hold the No. 29 transfer class this offseason.
At 6-5, 315 pounds, he ranks ahead of former Razorback left tackle Devon Manuel. Arkansas had one other offensive lineman transfer with redshirt freshman Joey Su’a headed to Arizona State.
With a retooled offensive line, there is a renewed hope the trenches will be much better in 2024. Sam Pittman and Eric Mateos zoned in on their targets relatively early and made a splash in the transfer portal. They have also added former JUCO All-American and Michigan State transfer Keyshawn Blackstock along with Tennessee’s Addison Nichols.
SMU’s Branson Hickman is also a player to watch. He announced last month he will enter the transfer portal in April and could be a possible addition, as allHogs reported last month.
The Razorbacks hope for improvement along the offensive line in 2024. The unit was one of the worst in college football, allowing 47 sacks to finish No. 128 in the FBS. The mark of nearly four sacks allowed per game was dead last in the SEC.
