Ex-Arkansas safety Greg Brooks Jr. underwent a successful operation to remove a "large brain tumor," the family announced early Wednesday morning. LSU coach Brian Kelly said Monday only that it was "a medical emergency" without any details out of respect for the family.

The Harvey, La., native spent three seasons on the Hill racking up 112 total tackles in a Razorback uniform before returning back to his home state for his final 2 years of eligibility. Arkansas coach Sam Pittman expressed sympathy for Brooks and his family on Wednesday's SEC coaches' call.

"We’re just continuing to pray for him," Pittman said. "In a nutshell, and I mean this with all my heart, he’s a wonderful, wonderful kid. And that didn’t change when he decided to go back to his home state of Louisiana. We have prayed and will continue to pray every day for his health."

LSU coach Brian Kelly explained that the problems started when Brooks started showing signs of vertigo, which turned out to be a symptom of a larger issue.

"He had dizziness again on Wednesday of last week," Kelly said. "Finally we said enough’s enough and we got an MRI and that’s when the tumor was located."

Brooks is out indefinitely and his timeline to return is unclear. The Hogs' game with LSU kicks off 6 p.m. Saturday at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge La. You can watch the game on ESPN and fuboTV.
