Has There Ever Been 'Bad' Recruiting Visit for Razorbacks?

There's also a question if we would read about it somewhere, but you often wonder

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — June is a busy month for Arkansas coach Sam Pittman and his staff. What used to be a month to re-charge the batteries and take things easy before the grind starts again now is reduced to a week or two in early July.

The thing that crossed my mind this week seeing all the recruiting headlines the last few weeks was if we'd even hear about a bad visit by anybody. Those guys that chase recruits do a great job and one I would never even attempt may have never written about one that sailed off the rails with some big target. I have never wasted a lot of effort thinking about players that "might" be coming or have left pro teams or college teams.

Is it really even worth the effort? Oh, recruiting is important and teams have to get several years of big-time players to build a big-time program. Oh, one-year wonders get noticed, but that's usually by everybody and if they have one of those "once in a lifetime" seasons, that can be pointed to as the reason.

Generally, though, the same teams in the Top 15 of the recruiting rankings since that sort of things existed are there every year and usually end up in the same spot in the final poll. Maybe nothing has changed in 60 years as recruiting, but it's interesting how the biggest names keep right on getting the top players and having the best teams.

Just so everybody knows, the Razorbacks haven't cracked into that Top 15 in the recruiting rankings very often and probably won't this year. In the 247Sports Composite, they are sitting at No. 17 now and that probably won't go up after looking at some of the teams behind them. They will obviously be landing some big names before all the signing starts in December.

The Hogs will likely land in the Top 25 when all is said and done ... mainly because that's where they've always been and other than the folks who always say they'll be in the Top 10 and win 10 games this year predict them to be.

One thing that hasn't changed in over 100 years of college football is not a lot of names at the top.
