FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — New Arkansas Razorbacks offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino was at the basketball game against Duke on Wednesday night, but wasn't brought out at halftime. ESPN got a shot of him sitting with Sam Pittman, though.

It was the head coach that didn't look particularly pleased while Petrino was smiling and looked more comfortable than his previous four seasons as the boss over a decade ago. Pittman was probably distracted and, admittedly, it wasn't a long cutaway from the game.

It probably helped with the Razorbacks leading Duke at halftime, 33-32. A sell-out crowd that wore white was already worked to a fever pitch over staying with the No. 9 team in the country after a stretch of games where they lost 3-of-4.

The news started behind hinted about Monday and picked up steam Tuesday before being announced Wednesday about middle of the day. News started leaking out in the middle of the afternoon that Pittman was bringing Petrino to the game. ESPN probably heard that, too.

It has been a shot in the arm to a Razorback football team wallowing around after a 4-8 season. Pittman fired offensive coordinator Dan Enos back in October after a 7-3 loss to Mississippi State. Athletics director Hunter Yurachek introduced a new NIL collective Tuesday as word was filtering out. It worked.
