FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The college football season is underway, but you will need to see it on fuboTV or have the Peacock app. The NBC affiliate for Northwest Arkansas is airing the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns in an NFL preseason game.

It happens. Those contracts get in the way and it's only Notre Dame playing Navy in Scotland, so no big interest there, right? I mean, it's not Arkansas so the start of the college football season really doesn't matter, right?

Before we go any further, I'm not blaming the guys at the station level we all see and love every day with their fine reporting. This goes way above their pay grade and is a decision made by guys who probably don't know the football is blown up or stuffed with feathers.

It will make you jealous watching the game, though, as the Irish have jumped out to a big lead early. With the hot temperatures up here the last week seeing a gray day that looks like December in the Ozarks makes you wish fondly the calendar would jump forward quite a bit.

Another interesting thing to note is the biggest company based in NWA, Walmart, is a sponsor of the game. Again, no big deal there or interest in the start of college football around these parts if it's not the Razorbacks, right?

The good news in all this is college football is officially underway. Notre Dame is kicking the Midshipmen all around Scotland early. That should at least give Zach Arns over at ESPN Arkansas some satisfaction, although he won't see the game until later so nobody text him or call him.

Coming up at 4:30 is a game with some casual fan interest with UTEP playing a Jacksonville State team that should be interesting and is causing some movement in the betting lines. You can see that game on CBS Sports Network and fuboTV.

The schedule picks up around dark. Vanderbilt kicks off the SEC part of opening weekend against Hawaii at 6:30 on the SEC Network and fuboTV. You can see Caleb Williams, the current Heisman Trophy holder and leader for another one at 7 p.m. and USC against San Jose State on the Pac 12 Network (good luck on finding that) and fuboTV. Florida International and Louisiana Tech will finish the night at 8 p.m. on that CBS Sports Network and fuboTV.
