FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas has a need for speed on the offensive side of the ball. A lot of its electric athletes were underclassmen who didn't see the field much this season. Now, they add Jordan "Flash" Anthony who is known to have exceptional speed at receiver while also excelling in track and field.

As a 4-star athlete in the 2022 recruiting cycle, Anthony was considered one of the fastest track athletes in the country, running a 10.16 second 100-meter dash as a freshman at Kentucky. When it comes to long distances, he ran a 20.91 200-meters during the spring of 2023. After a lack of playing time in Lexington, Anthony transferred within the SEC to Texas A&M. He received limited snaps, recording three receptions for 14 yards in 2023 with Bobby Petrino as his offensive coordinator.

With Petrino back in the saddle at Arkansas, a prior relationship with the speedy receiver gave Arkansas the edge early on. Such a head start that Anthony committed to the Razorbacks before visiting the campus after entering the transfer portal.

"Yessir I am considering visiting them soon," Anthony told allHogs before his commitment. "[Arkansas] is a great program overall. The relationship I have with Petrino is great!"

During Anthony's high school recruitment, he committed to Kentucky over offers from Florida State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Boston College and Houston. His lead recruiter with the Wildcats was John Sumrall who is the new head coach at Tulane.

In the past, Petrino has used his smaller, but speedy receivers on drag routes over the middle of the field to eat up chunk yardage. The Razorbacks were one of the worst offenses at creating big plays in 2023, finishing with 30 plays of 20+ yards, ranking No. 109 and worst in the SEC. In his lone season in College Station, the Aggies saw their offense produce 20 more plays of 20+ yards and that came while using three starting quarterbacks due to injury.

During Petrino's best two seasons, Arkansas led the SEC and sat in the Top 10 in 2010 and 2011 for plays exceeding 20 yards. While it may take a while for the Razorbacks to reach such a dynamic level, there are pieces in the passing game to take advantage of. For guys like Anthony, Isaiah Sategna, Ashton Bethel-Roman and Dazmin James, this change in philosophy could be just what the doctor ordered.

The Razorbacks have added nine players through the transfer portal with Anthony being the lone receiver. Sam Pittman mentioned in his wishlist that receiver was a position the coaching staff would target via the transfer portal and hasn't waivered from the plan.
