Crutchfield at Top of List to Receive Visit from Razorbacks Staff
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — When Arkansas was sitting at 2-6 overall, the season's outcome was starting to look bleak. Minutes before kickoff against Florida on Nov. 4, wide receiver Courtney Crutchfield announced his decommitment from the Razorbacks. A crushing blow to what was a promising class put together by fourth year coach, Sam Pittman.
With the addition of Bobby Petrino as offensive coordinator, the hope is his record with sophisticated, high scoring offenses will be enough to pull the 6-foot-2, 175 4-star receiver back into the fold. There's plenty of work to be done as Early Signing Day approaches. For Arkansas coaches, the plan is to meet with all offensive commitments this weekend while adding an extra trip in to Jefferson County for an in-home visit, according to Crutchfield.
As the No. 1 prospect in the Natural State for this season, according to 247sports, Crutchfield was one of the state's top playmakers on both sides of the ba;; in 2023 for the Zebras. He caught 53 passes for 1,297 yards and 19 touchdowns while also recording 14 tackles, 1 tackle for loss and an interception at defensive back.
While with the Aggies last season, Petrino improved scoring offense from No. 100 in 2022 at 23 points per game to No. 25 in 2023 at 34 points. In his one year in College Station, he started three quarterbacks due to injury and still generated for 3,000 yards passing, 24 touchdowns and only nine interceptions. Six Aggie receivers caught 24 or more passes last season with all exceeding 200 yards.
Crutchfield tells me he doesn't have a current timeline for when he plans to announce his college decision. However, Arkansas and Missouri are the two programs recruiting him the hardest. The Tigers have been a thorn in the Razorbacks' side for the longest time. They've beaten the Hogs with lightly recruited in-state players like wide receiver Barrett Banister, defensive lineman Akial Byers and quarterback Taylor Powell. Now, they're wanting to steal the best that the state has to offer in Crutchfield. Losing the top player instate to a perceived rival would be a huge black eye to something Pittman does best. Recruit.
