Arkansas Loses Yet Another Key Offensive Piece
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Despite Arkansas' fast 14-0 start with an encouraging opening drive from new offensive coordinator Kenny Guiton with tempo, it didn't make it through the first half. Florida had answered and tied the game at 14-14 before the end of the first period.
The Razorbacks marched down the field in just 2:54 in just seven plays, but it was an expensive start. Already without Rashod Dubinion, the Hogs saw starting tight end TJ Washington go down with a shoulder injury. Washington was spotted on the sideline in a sling.
With starting tight end Luke Hasz already out for the regular season with a broken clavicle, Arkansas is now down to Nathan Bax, Var'Keyes Gumms, and Francis Sherman at tight end. Walk-on freshman tight end Maddox Lassiter, who Sam Pittman said earlier in the week, might start to see some playing time, could be the next guy added to the mix for some plays. He won't burn a redshirt.
After getting 75 yards on the opening drive, without Washington, the old offensive struggles returned. The Hogs only managed a combined 28 yards on the next four drives, resulting in three punts and a KJ Jefferson interception.
The Gators answered with a couple of scoring drives as quarterback Graham Mertz sliced up the Hogs' secondary. Cam Little kicked a field goal, then Florida got one just before the end of the half as the wind started swirling and things are tied at 17.
