No word on fate of Sam Pittman, but Texas A&M launches annual game of dominoes

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas didn't publicly knock over the first domino in the annual game of musical chairs with coaches, but Texas A&M dumping Jimbo Fisher got the lead position in the parade. Leave it to the SEC Network's Paul Finebaum on Sunday afternoon to explain everything.

The Razorbacks might not be in the running for some of the biggest names. Whether they could land one of the really big names being thrown around. It's all speculation right now anyway because Jimmy Sexton band of merry agents represents most of the college football coaches. He probably can furnish every athletics director in the country with who's interested in going where, Finebaum said on The Matt Barrie Podcast on ESPN's college football podcast.

"There will be a domino effect," Finebaum said. "Two weeks from today, that's the end of the regular season. The ADs want to move in there and they want a coach by tomorrow. There's a very narrow window. It tells me they've got their eyes on somebody. Because they've been looking around, and if they didn't think they could land a white whale so to speak, I don't think they would've made this move."

One person everybody in Arkansas wants to think would have a mutual interest is Texas-San Antonio coach Jeff Traylor, who was the running backs coach for Chad Morris' time. The only problem is he wanted the job in 2019, but they chose Sam Pittman and I'm not really sure he is still interested in coming to Fayetteville. Not every coach in the country views Fayetteville as a destination job landing spot. He was on the list of possible replacements for Fisher with the Aggies.

While the Razorbacks might not announce Pittman is leaving, the decision may have already been made. Those things usually don't just happen on a whim and there's not really a lot of bad blood there we're aware of. Nothing that would force an immediate departure.

Pittman may be ready to retire and it's announced that way, then they will try to jump in the chase for a new coach. We'll worry about having one of those when it's officially something Hog fans can seriously look at. Until then, Pittman has a meaningless two games to finish the season and getting a win over Florida International would certainly be a more positive parting gift that whatever may happen against Missouri the day after Thanksgiving.
