Razorbacks Have Lost Valuable Key to Getting Wins
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — There’s been something missing over the first eight games of the season for Arkansas — determination. Of course, you read that statement correctly. The Razorbacks' offense lost their determination to win at a high clip.
The talk of the town before the season was the Hogs winning nine or more games and finding themselves battling for a New Year’s Six Bowl game. Sadly, that dream was pushed aside once they lost to BYU on September 16. Having a senior quarterback and darkhorse Heisman candidate at running back gave fans thoughts of yesteryear.
A backfield this talented wasted due to a lazy hire of familiarity. Instead of going after an offensive coordinator that would make an easier transition for KJ Jefferson and the offensive line, Hogs coach Sam Pittman went after someone with a different philosophy. Eventually, the path led to six straight losses and starting from scratch.
The Hogs’ offense had lost their swagger under Dan Enos while looking like they quit on their coordinator. Three points and 200 yards on arguably the worst defense in the SEC doesn’t give much hope for the season. A change was needed, fresh air was breathed into the offense, and now the anticipation continues to mount if Pittman can right the ship. Right now, the lip service sounds promising leading up to Saturday’s game.
"It's all about determination, grit and passion,” Pittman said. “We've got to get that back to our offensive line and the rest of the offense."
Speaking of the offensive line, they’ve been one of the worst in not only the SEC but all of college football. Arkansas has given up 31 sacks this season, ranking no. 122 in the country. On the flip side, the Razorbacks defensive line has been one of the best once again ranking no. 28 in the country with 22 sacks this season. With such a ridiculous difference on paper, Pittman seems to be impressed that the offense is picking blitzed up well.
“I was pleased knowing coach Guiton had the answers to the blitzes,” Pittman said. “The offense seemed to rally around him. They really have a passion for him."
Florida hasn’t been overly impressive rushing the passer either. The Gators sit no. 117 in the country recording 11 sacks on the season.
