Razorbacks' Musselman May Have Moved to Focus for Louisville
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Get ready for another round of chatter surrounding Arkansas Razorbacks coach Eric Musselman. Apparently Scott Drew is staying put as the coach of the Baylor Bears, so now the Louisville Cardinals need to look in another direction.
The Field of 68's Jeff Goodman had a report about an hour following comments from Drew reiterating that he would not be leaving Baylor.
"I am locked in on Baylor University … Baylor is my home and my family’s home," Drew told ESPN 1660, the flagship radio station for Baylor Athletics.
It was interesting to see a candidate profile of Musselman earlier Wednesday at the Louisville Report as the Cardinals are trying to find someone to replace Kenny Payne.
Too Early for Changes? We Have to Wait on March Madness
The only thing we've heard from Musselman is a social media posting on X about a former player in an NBA game. Reports have swirled the last several days on what direction the Razorbacks might go after a disappointing season. The options, obviously, get a little simpler if Musselman takes another job.
It is very unlikely anybody is going to fire him at Arkansas. There's not really an appetite for that among the majority of the fan base and it's doubtful athletics director Hunter Yurachek wants to deal with another coaching search at this time.
He's got enough problems with the constantly changing landscape in college sports. Juggling a hunt for a new coach is probably a headache he'd just as soon not deal with after two straight Elite Eight appearances and a Sweet 16 last year. This past season fell apart on Musselman with all of the new transfers.
He will have to bring in several more transfers this off season, including a spot to fill the role of junior Davonte Davis.
All fans can do is wait as talk of Musselman's future continues to swirl. How much is out there is up for debate because nobody is really saying a whole lot about much of anything.
