Dominant Performance from Ellis Offensive Piece Arkansas Needed
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — It’s El Ellis’ world and we are just lucky to live in it. The former leading scorer for the Louisville Cardinals last season is beginning to find his groove at point guard for the Razorbacks.
The do-it-all man for the four-win Cards last season, Ellis finally has an opportunity to show his worth for a team with plenty elder pieces to go along with him. Although he didn’t have a marquee performance on opening night, his production has increased ever since.
Ellis led all Razorbacks in scoring and assists with 17 points and 8 assists. He was dominant off screens with five field goal makes near the rim.
"[Ellis] can do that any night he wants to,” Khakif Battle said. “Our backcourt is very talented. El did a great job, and he's going to keep it up."
This shouldn’t be the bar for Ellis’ rise as an offensive weapon as he was the focal point at his last stop. He never wants to stop learning and can soak plenty of knowledge from his coach.
"[Ellis] has done a really good job on asking for feedback of what we're looking for,” Musselman said. “He's a guy who understands what areas people want to see from him."
As a team, the Razorbacks only turned the ball over four times against the Monarchs on Monday night. The host of talented transfer guards finished with one turnover combined while Ellis committed zero.
According to Hogstats on X, Ellis became just the second Razorback since 1996-97 to record 17+ points, 8+ assists and zero turnovers in a game. The other was fellow transfer Jalen Tate when he scored 17 points and 11 assists against Central Arkansas on Dec. 12, 2020.
