Musselman Doesn't Like Talking Much After These Blowout Losses

It probably shouldn't have been surprising, but Razorbacks' coach doesn't talk much then

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — It's not surprising how short the press conferences are after Arkansas suffered another blowout loss Saturday at LSU, 95-74. Eric Musselman doesn't like losing and probably doesn't even pretend to be okay about them.

There aren't a lot of specifics. He'd probably have plenty of them Sunday because it's a good bet he was up over half the night watching and doing all that analytical stuff he does along with his staff. If you called him about noon, you could get a list longer than anyone wants to read.

"We gotta get better," was the line of the day, with Musselman repeating it several times. "We gotta keep coaching. We gotta keep trying to improve." His competitive nature doesn't let him endure these kinds of losses well. This team is so dysfunctional at times, they seem to be scratching their heads over what to do about it.

The rules these days don't let them run them up and down Cleveland Hill anymore or take laps around the arena. Eddie Sutton and Nolan Richardson (especially Nolan) were known to do that on occasion. For those that don't know about the hill, it's the steep climb up Cleveland St. from Razorback Rd. to Sang Ave. With a 25 mile an hour speed limit, you're pulling a lot of RPMs to keep from going backwards.

About all Musselman can do is teach. And watch film, which he's probably been doing since he got on the plane in Baton Rouge. Now he has a week before they hit the floor again, facing Georgia at Bud Walton Arena on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs got a big 76-66 win in Athens on Jan. 10 on the SEC Network and fuboTV.

"The only thing I know is to go back and coach," Musselman said Saturday. "This has been unlike things that I’ve experienced. All I know is we get in the gym on Monday, and we try to get better. That’s the job of any coach of any sport. We got a lot of spots we’ve got to get better at. A lot. On both sides of the ball."
