Razorbacks' Musselman Really Doesn't Need or Want Help Now

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — It's impossible to do much of anything around here these days without the inevitable question or suggestion to pass along to Arkansas Razorbacks' coach Eric Musselman after a disappointing season.

Offering him your free advice is really a waste of time. He really doesn't need it and it's unlikely you know more about what he's doing than he does. A lot of it has been so wild the gossip doesn't even deserve acknowledgement. It's gotten to that point.

Everybody has a source. In this business, you get to hear everything. I have a very short list of people to listen to when it comes to the Hogs. Odds are whatever is out there on social media isn't really more than a wild guess.  Like I said, everybody in multiple states knows a cousin that once met somebody connected to something that knows something.

If there's a coach opening, that's Hunter Yurachek's problem. He, like every athletic director, probably already has a list of potential replacements in mind, ones who would be a dream, folks that might have interest, and who he could afford. He wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't have that.

The bigger problem most immediate is finding players. It's still up in the air how many players are returning. Several were out of eligibility and others were merely addition by subtraction. We may not be finished with players leaving the Razorbacks from this roster. There will be many new faces that will take me through January next year to recognize on sight.

All of us have an opinion. Fans have their own little corner of the world to post their opinions and nobody that matters really pays attention, despite what anybody wants to believe. I tend to drive folks at allHOGS crazy at times because I don't waste a lot of time and effort on people that have left or not gotten here yet. Exceptions are made decades after the fact, if they were interesting.

There hasn't been enough recent success in Razorbacks athletics, except baseball, to create fond memories, and complaining would only entertain me.

About the only thing you could tell Musselman is nobody really cares what the problems are these days. All fans want to know is how he's going to fix the situation. In the years he's been in this business, there's been much more criticism he's probably had to deal with, from fans and media alike. He knows it anyway.
