Razorbacks Win Over Incarnate Word Ends Year on Positive Note
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas used another 20+ point performance from Taliah Scott to end the 2023 calendar year with a 67-48 win over the Incarnate Word Cardinals.
Both teams struggled from the field shooting 39% and 27% respectively, the Razorbacks used clamp-down defense to keep Incarnate Word at arm's length. A Scott triple after a Makyla Daniels steal gave the Hogs a 14-10 lead after the first quarter. The Cardinals were held scoreless for the final 3:44 of the first quarter.
The Hogs continued to use the three-ball to great effect. This time it was Daniels’ turn to be on the receiving end of a Samara Spencer steal to stretch the lead to double figures, 22-12.
Arkansas began to get more aggressive towards the end of the first half, the final three points of the half coming at the charity stripe, a sign of things to come in the final 20 minutes as Arkansas held onto a 27-20 lead at the break.
The Hogs scored 10 of their 19 points at the free-throw line in the third quarter, using the presence of Maryam Dauda to its advantage as the outside shooting dried up. Dauda scored 11 of her 13 points in the quarter, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the line. The Hogs finished 17-for-20 as a team.
The last time the Razorbacks were on its home floor, it blew a double-digit lead, there would be no Deja Vu, a Scott jumper off yet another steal with 5:23 remaining sealed the win. Scott eclipsed the 20-point mark for the 11th time in her career in just 15 games.
The Razorbacks begin conference play on the road against Kentucky 6 p.m. Jan. 4. The game will be streamed on SEC Network+.
