Razorbacks Struggle to Fight LSU's Scoring Prowess
BATON ROUGE, La. — A dreadful start doomed Arkansas against the No. 10 LSU Tigers on the road en route to a 99-68 loss. LSU blitzed the Razorbacks and scored the first 18 points.
The defending champion Tigers came into the game with four different starters averaging double figures. The Hogs had nothing to start the game. Coach Mike Neighbors' team started 0-for-7 from the field with five turnovers and did not score until Maryam Dauda's back-to-back threes. The Razorbacks ended the quarter on a 16-7 run thanks to the three-ball to keep the deficit to within single digits 25-16.
Without four-time SEC Freshman of the Week Taliah Scott, who continues to nurse a back injury, the Hogs did not have the firepower to match the Razorbacks. LSU came into the game top in the nation in points per game. Mikaylah Williams and Hailey Van Lith led the scoring early with 27 points combined in the first half. LSU had four players in double figures. AP preseason All-American Angel Reese also pitched in with a double-double, 16 points, and 17 rebounds.
LSU dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Hogs 60-33 including 18-9 on the offensive boards. Samara Spencer led the Razorbacks with 20 points but shot 5-for-22 from the field.
The Tigers started the second quarter on an 8-0 run and never looked back and took a 55-28 lead into halftime. LSU came up just short of 100 points for the seventh time this season with a layup on the final possession to finish at 99 to put an exclamation point on a dominant performance.
The Razorbacks will seek revenge against Kentucky inside Bud Walton Arena after the Wildcats beat Arkansas to open SEC play. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 25 and will be streamed on SEC Network+.
