Scott Makes History; on Pace to Shatter School Record
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Rinse and repeat. Despite losing to UAPB 74-70 on Sunday, Arkansas freshman guard Taliah Scott won her fourth straight SEC Freshman of the Week honor. She is the first player in league history to do so.
"It's an unbelievable freshman class," coach Mike Neighbors said after Scott's 29-point performance against Louisiana Tech. "Every freshman in the country that's getting the recognition that's out there, they deserve it. It should be one bigger. There should be one more kid added on there."
In two games this week against Louisana Tech and UAPB, she combined for 60 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Scott is now one off the program record for most SEC Freshman of the Week honors (Saylor Poffenbarger and C'eria Ricketts both have five).
Scott is currently the only player in the SEC to average over 20 points per game (24.5) and is on pace to shatter the freshman season-scoring record of Bettye Fiscus, who is the program's all-time leading scorer and has her jersey number retired. Fiscus' record of 655 points across 36 games (18.19 average) was set during the 1981-82 season. Scott is already at 269 points in just 11 games.
Scott and the Razorbacks will look to get back on track against Samford in North Little Rock, Ark. Tipoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and will be streamed on SEC Network+.
