Arkansas Lands First Portal Commitment
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – UMass big man Josh Cohen has announced he will transfer to Arkansas, per On3’s Joe Tipton. He chose the Razorbacks over Notre Dame and Penn State.
The Minutemen’s center averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists this season as a fifth-year senior. Cohen has played at the Division One level, beginning his career with St. Francis of the Northeastern Conference from 2019-2023. He transferred to UMass this season but saw his production fall off a little bit with a move up in competition to the Atlantic 10.
As a junior with St. Francis, Cohen scored a career-high 22 points per game, 58% from the field and eight rebounds. He enters the portal with a 4-star transfer ranking and a 91 overall grade. The 6-foot-10, 220 pound center is the No. 123 ranked transfer and No. 22 player at his position, per On3’s transfer ranking. Cohen finished the season with All-A10 honors.
Cohen is an excellent scorer in the post. He ranked in the top 25 in the country with his efficiency in post-up situations. UMass coach Franklin Martin gave him an opportunity to become more of a stretch big, drilling 11-of-32 three point attempts (34%).
The New Jersey native scored 20+ points in 11 contests last season. Cohen scored 28 points on three separate occasions.
Eric Musselman will be tasked with retooling a roster which underwhelmed this season after being touted as the No. 7 portal class by 247sports. With four scholarship players already in the portal and five out of eligibility, Arkansas will have plenty of spots to work with to fill a winning squad.
The addition of Cohen gives Arkansas a second player for its frontcourt. He joins Baye Fall as the only returning centers from this year’s roster.
