Four Reasons To Like Cam Coleman’s Commitment To Auburn

Through recruiting, the Tigers are building a special wide receiver unit

With Cam Coleman’s commitment to the Auburn Tigers, the 2024 recruiting class added an elite prospect who can make an immediate impact on the Plains. Here’s why Auburn fans should be excited about the 5-star having made his pledge to Hugh Freeze and the Auburn coaching staff.

1) Instant-impact wide receivers do not grow on trees.

Coleman’s physical traits make him unique. 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, the Phenix City (Ala.) Central prospect has still displayed that he’s a twitchy playmaker after the catch. He’s just so nimble around the end zone, too. Check out the following video that Coleman retweeted:

2) Look at the programs Auburn beat out to land Coleman.

Florida State was probably the school that came closest to getting Coleman, and it’s in prime position to head to the College Football Playoffs.

Texas A&M once had Coleman’s commitment, and Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, Florida, and many other schools all wanted this young man’s signed national letter of intent.

For Auburn to be a national title contender again, winning elite recruiting battles, like the one with Coleman, need to become more common at Auburn. This was another step in the right direction for Freeze and his staff.

3) Defenses will have to adjust to Auburn and Coleman.

Once on the Plains, Coleman’s talent will have been obvious to opposing defensive coordinators. Double team him? If yes, that leaves the door open for any other Auburn skill player to be one-on-one.

Keep in mind, this 2024 Auburn recruiting class has three other really talented wide receivers, including another borderline 5-star in Perry Thompson, and there’s still talent on the Auburn roster being developed, too.

If Coleman hasn’t received a double team, the options will have been all but unlimited. Again, Coleman has proven to be a special talent and his traits will translate to the college game. He could very well make some big-time plays by the end of next September.

4) Auburn’s red zone offense will change.

After Auburn has entered the red zone, the Tigers will have a “throw it up to him” kind of receiver with Coleman. His wingspan and athleticism provide Coleman with an advantage that cannot be taught.

Yes, the SEC has always been known as a big-time cornerback league. Even by those SEC standards, Coleman’s size and physical skill will provide challenges that most cornerbacks will fail to conquer.
