Auburn Prospect Amaris Williams Announces Decision Time
National Signing Day is only two days away, and there's a huge decision for the Auburn Tigers. Defensive line recruit Amaris Williams is going to make his announcement on Wednesday afternoon, per the following X post:
signing on Wednesday at Clinton high school cafeteria @ 1:30pm 👌🏾 live
— Amaris Williams (@Amaris10w) December 18, 2023
1:30 p.m. in Clinton, N.C. is one hour ahead of the time in Auburn, Ala. That just means that AU fans will get an answer an hour earlier than folks on Eastern Standard Time.
Williams is the #34 player per the 247Sports composite recruiting rankings. His official visit list includes Penn State (June 2), Florida (June 16), Ohio State (Oct. 21), and Auburn (Dec. 10).
2024 Auburn Tigers Commitment List and Evaluations
Here's a snapshot of Williams as a prospect and why the Florida Gators are trying everything they can to keep him committed (unlikely) while Ohio State would love to flip Williams, just like Auburn would (the favorite).
At 6-foot-2 and 265 pounds, Williams is a solid piece of muscle. He's also twitchy. Williams plays Wildcat quarterback for his Clinton (N.C.) High School team, as well as wing back, running back, defensive line, and outside linebacker.
While it might seem odd, Williams' running down the field while making defenders miss or running through their attempted tackles is awesome to watch. His ability to stop-and-start, then go back to full speed and out-running defenders to the end zone is rare for a 220-pound running back, let alone a player that projects along the defensive line.
