A'Mon Lane Signs With Auburn Tigers

Speedy cornerback A'Mon Lane is headed to the Plains.

One of the state of Alabama's fastest cornerbacks will be playing for the Auburn Tigers. A'Mon Lane is officially in the fold with his signed letter of intent.

Auburn's pass defense needs more speed and depth, and Lane can help make that happen.

A'Mon Lane

Size: 5-foot-11, 180 pounds

Position: Cornerback

High School: Moody (Ala.) High School

Recruitment: A player with a 7.03 60-meter time is going to see a lot of college football programs come after him. Lane's offer list includes but is not limited to Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, and Florida State.

Breakdown: For cornerback, Lane is quite physical. Moody likes to blitz him off the edge and keep Lane active in the run game. In one sense, a person could consider Lane a player that's just as capable of playing safety as cornerback.

On the other hand, Lane's flat-out speed is something that's always in need at the SEC level. His ability to mirror wide receivers is going to be welcomed on the Plains.

Area to Improve: Finding a specific home, whether it's field cornerback or boundary, perhaps at nickel where Lane's penchant for being involved with stopping the run is well served.

Lane plays cornerback with a strong safety mentality. He’s a downhill striker who plays nickel cornerback or outside cornerback. Regardless of where he’s lining up, Lane does his most outstanding work when he’s in bump-and-run coverage. Turns and runs with fluidity as a coverage man. Even versus larger wide receivers or even tight ends, Lane’s ability to play through the intended target when the football arrives allows him to get pass breakups. Perhaps his best attribute is playing the run. Whether blitzing or fending off a blocker to reach a running back, Lane is ultra-aggressive near the line of scrimmage and enjoys contact.

Lane is going to have a chance to play early at Auburn if he picks up the playbook quickly. Finding speedy defensive backs with his versatility is not easy.
