Auburn Signs Holmes Community College Safety Laquan Robinson

Auburn brings home former Alabama prep prospect to the Plains

The Auburn Tigers are signing an experienced junior college defensive back who originally played his prep football inside the Yellow Hammer State.

Laquan Robinson

Size: 6-foot-2, 195 pounds

Position: Safety

Schools: Greenville (Ala.) High School / Goodman (Miss.) Holmes Community College

Recruitment: Several SEC programs like Texas A&M, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Florida, and Ole Miss went after Robinson. He made his decision to sign with Auburn and go public on Nov. 10, 2023.

He's the #14 player in the 247Sports composite JUCO rankings and the No. 1 safety. 

Strengths: A developed physique helps Robinson be a thumper. Robinson's propensity to lay the wood is immediately known upon watching his junior college sophomore highlights. No hesitation before going full-tilt toward the opposing running back. 

His ability to diagnose plays from his free safety spot, and do so quickly, allows him to close the gap between him and the opposing runner; which helps to limit the chances of being juked.

Robinson's speed also helps him make plays in the passing game whether down the field or during a screen. He's an impressive athlete with a world of upside.

Area to Improve: He is aggressive playing downhill. He must be careful – at the SEC level – to not be duped into getting beat deep with trick plays and play-action passes.

He's twitchy enough to play free safety. Robinson's penchant for physical contact likely dictates that he plays in the box for the Tigers, however. Blitzing, helping in run support, and playing downhill overall would be areas he's best suited to do. Do not be shocked if Robinson plays some nickel either. He has the cover skills to do so. He's an excellent pickup for the Tigers at a position where Auburn definitely needs veterans to join the 2024 roster.

Auburn is signing an impact safety with Robinson. Tigers fans will see a lot of him during the 2024 season.
