Joseph Phillips officially signs with the Auburn Tigers
The Auburn Tigers have signed one of the best EDGE prospects in the country.
Joseph Phillips, a four-star EDGE in the 2024 class, has signed with Auburn per his social media.
Phillips is the No. 7 EDGE, No. 106 prospect nationally and the No. 9 player in the state of Alabama according to the 247Sports composite ratings.
Joseph Phillips
Size: 6-foot-2, 250 pounds
Position: EDGE
High School: TusBooker T. Washington
Recruitment: Phillips' first offer came from Auburn on November 2nd of 2022. Quickly following were Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Georgia and Alabama over the next several weeks.
The Tigers got Phillips on campus for Junior Day in January and for an unofficial visit at the beginning of March. Phillips then took another visit to Auburn mid-March and another in April before committing in June.
Breakdown: Playing for Tuskegee (Ala.) Booker T. Washington, Phillips did more than use his 6-foot-2 and 250-pound frame to be an edge defender. That’s where most project him to play for Auburn, but here’s the lowdown.
Quarterback, middle linebacker, and edge defender are all spots where Phillips excels on the prep level. You read that correctly, quarterback is a spot where Phillips is a standout. Whether running the football or throwing it deep, he makes plays.
Phillips moves very well for his size. He can flat out get after the quarterback.
Area to Improve: The only knock on Phillips is that he has room to grow. He could add on some more weight in college.
